Form looks at your fitness and fatigue and the difference is your form. If the difference is too great you are either exhausting yourself, or not pushing enough. If the difference is within a certain difference range then you are training optimally....

The Subtle Transition to Strava — May 6, 2026Naturally we think of social media as being social but since the pandemic, and before then social media have become about keeping influencers happy and everyone scrolling, rather than chatting and engaging. It’s the utilitarian "We’re using social media to distract ourselves, rather than network.... -
Creeping Utilitarianism on the Fediverse — May 5, 2026This morning I noticed something. I noticed that there appears to be more utilitarianism on the web. I noticed that Wordpress now quantifies follower growth, engagement and more and whilst some people love it, it fills me with dread.... -
Navigating with the Garmin Instinct 2 — May 4, 2026Today my attempt to navigate while running with the Garmin Instinct 2 was a failure for two reasons. The first reason is that I didn’t study the map that closely, because one of my assumptions was wrong. The second reason is that the map updated after the turns we had to make. The result is that you realise once you’re committed, and when you’re running with a group you don’t have the luxury of turning around quite as easily.... -
On Assessing a Whatsapp Community Correctly — Apr 30, 2026I gave a Whatsapp Community of Communities community the benefit of the doubt for over a year, and eventually, when I saw that conversations for a town based chat were locked, except for admins overnight while I slept I quit, despite conversations being open again.... -
A Ride to Morges and Back to See Tulips — Apr 28, 2026Yesterday morning someone suggested cycling to meet a friend in Morges so I agreed, despite having been for a 7.5km run with another group from 07:00 to 08:00 the same morning. I had enough time to have lunch, and then to sprint to Gland from Nyon. I sprinted because I didn’t know how long the trip would take.... -
On Extroverts and the Stifled Online Conversation — Apr 27, 2026Today I was considering joining someone’s Whatsapp Running Community until I heard the phrase “I am the only one that can write messages and I let people answer polls”. For me, as a netizen of the 90s web, this is a red flag. It is a red flag because if all you want to do is see if people want to participate then you have events on Strava, Meetup.com and other sites and apps.... -
On the Bike Making Geneva Local Despite Living Near Nyon — Apr 24, 2026Years ago I could drive to Geneva every day, up to two times per day or more. Over a period of time they made driving more and more inconvenient. They changed road circulation patterns to create one way systems, that made direct drivers more complicated. They designed traffic lights to create, rather than reduce traffic. I once drove from Place des Nations to the end of the Pont Du Mont Blanc in an hour. That’s 2 kilometres per hour. That’s slower than a sloth.... -
A Bridge Too Far — Apr 21, 2026Yesterday I walked to a Coop shop in Nyon by foot, to shop for a day. Rather than taking the car I chose to walk down from Eysins, across the narrow, really dangerous road and bridge to get to the other side. Along the way I saw two dog walkers question whether to walk along the glissière or whether to cross. They crossed the dangerous road and walked with their backs to traffic.... -
Why I Switched Away From Minimalist Shoes — Apr 20, 2026During the pandemic I would walk from one and a half hours per day every single day of the week for months. In that time I believe that my feet swelled, making normal shoes more and more uncomfortable to wear....
