Yesterday I noticed that I had an unusual workout that was getting likes. It had zero minutes of exercise, zero distance travelled, and NaN speed in km/h. In other words I had a track that should not have been counted by Strava as a workout....

The Zero Second Not a Number Strava Mystery — Apr 2, 2026 -
Strava - How to Upload Manually — Oct 8, 2025Since Strava has decided to sue Garmin, and since Suunto has decided to sue Garmin as well, for different reasons, I feel now is a good opportunity to remind ourselves of how to upload to Garmin and Strava manually.... -
AppleCare+ Justified for Once — Sep 4, 2025People know that I love to hate the Apple Watch. I have loved to hate it since I had an Apple Watch Series 3 where the screen cracked while indoor climbing. For years I had climbed with Suunto without any issues. I replaced the Apple Watch Series 3 with a Series 4 and that watch lasted for four years. I still have it but the battery dies within half a day. It’s because I had to charge it twice a day that I switched to an Apple Watch SE.... -
How to revive an Apple Watch That Will Not Pair After Resetting the Device — Jul 19, 2025For the TLDR Crowd. Yesterday after multiple tries to pair my phone with my watch I hard reset the phone and tried again. When it asked me to login to iCloud I did, and then I was able to pair the phone with the watch....

Apple Watches and Planned obsolescence — Jul 7, 2025Yesterday I came across something interesting and frustrating. Apple watches don’t need to be obsolete, themselves, to be unusable. If you try to pair an iphone 8 plus with an Apple Watch it will refuse because the OS is two generations too old. I tried to sync with the Iphone SE from 2020 and I am also having issues. The OS is 18.x so it should work fine.... -
Apple Watches and the Art of Standing for a Minute an Hour — Feb 13, 2025A few minutes ago I looked at my Apple Watch and it said that I had not stood for the last two hours so I got up and walked around until it said that I had stood this hour. The irony is not lost on me that a watch would tell me that I am not active enough.... -
Step Tracking with the Casio ABL-100WE — Dec 3, 2024The Casio ABL-100WE range of watches look similar to the A-168 range of Casio watches with one key difference. It counts steps like several G-shock watches do but rather than have a massive case that can survive a ten meter drop onto concrete it looks “elegant”, like the a-158, a-168 and other casio models.... -
Running With the Apple Watch SE — Nov 27, 2024Apple push us to get the Apple Watch Series 10, the Ultra 2 or the Apple Watch SE in third place. If you’re a runner, and you don’t feel like spending on the Ultra or the Ten then it makes sense to get the SE instead.... -
Epix Gen 2 First Impressions — Oct 22, 2024I saw that a Garmin Epix (Gen 2) watch was lying unused for a few days in a row so I asked if I could borrow it to experiment with and the answer was yes so that’s the Garmin watch I am wearing now....

Garmin and Other Services — Sep 18, 2024Yesterday I wore the Suunto Peak 5 alongside the Apple Watch SE rather than the Apple Watch SE and Garmin device as I usually would. The reason for this is that I want to continue playing with Suunto devices, and I’d like to wean myself off of the Apple Watch, for at least a week or two.... -
The Apple Watch Series 4 and Planned Obsolescence — Aug 28, 2024This morning as I woke up I decided to strap on the Apple Watch Series 4 and use it for part of the day. In the process I thought that I would check my EKG reading. That’s when I saw that the EKG app is no longer supported on the Apple Watch Series 4. Now is the time when that watch could be recycled. Apple no longer supports it so within half a year to a year it will be vintage....

Thoughts on the Casio A168 Watch Type — Jun 4, 2024Recently I decided to re-explore Casio watches like the ones I had as a child. In the process I found that they’re minimalist, but great. They tell you the time. They beep every hour if you want them to. They wake you up if you set the alarm at the desired time. Some of them last for ten years, or more.... -
A Reminder of Why I Stopped Using the Garmin Watch — May 3, 2024Yesterday I was reminded of why I stopped wearing the Garmin watch, replacing it with Casio watches instead. It’s because Garmin, Suunto and Xiaomi don’t count walking as real sport. Imagine, you’re wearing a watch twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, every day, and charging it every month with the Garmin Instinct, and every few days with the other devices, and you see the absurdity of certain trackers.... -
Wearing A Casio GBA-900 — Feb 4, 2024For years I have worn Suunto, Garmin and Apple watches. During this time I have tracked hikes, climbing, scuba diving, snorkeling, swimming and more. Recently I felt the desire to wear a Casio watch as I used to do when I was a child.... -
Decline of an Apple Watch Series Four — Oct 22, 2023I have had my Apple Watch Series Four for four or five years now and it has been warn almost every day of those for years. In that time I have exceeded my move goal by 400% six times, by 300 percent 21 times, and by 200% 194 times. I have my longest move streak lasting 76 days, and perfect weeks one hundred times. I have reached my move goal 1602 times over the years. I completed 36 monthly challenges. I had 7-workout weeks 253 times. I also have 27 limited edition challenges badges....
