Embouteillage pour cause de sapin sur l'autoroute a1 en direction de Lausanne Blecherette — Dec 22, 2006I went snowboarding at it was great fun. At some moments the snow was great fun so it felt really good. I love the feeling of snowboarding at a fast rate down ski slopes and keeping up with skiers who don’t mind waiting too much. All the snow canons were active because there’s a lack of natural precipitation. Some resorts are worried about what to do but as long as it’s cool then fake snow can be created to make a base on which for skiers to have fun. It’s tomorrow the resorts open properly, when all the tourists arrive. On the way home on the radio I heard there was a traffic jam on the way to lausanne due to a christmas tree being on the road and I burst out laughing. only in Switzerland would you hear such a traffic jam warning....

Cycling in the Rain and Snow — Feb 6, 2016[caption id=— align=“aligncenter”] Winter cycling Cycling is a sport that I forgot about for more than a decade. My passion for the sport came back when I had fun with a friend cycling around London. That experience showed me that London is even smaller than I thought. As an enthusiastic walker I already learned how to get around central London. To do so on a bike provided me with a new perspective of the town. In the summer of 2015 I cycled around one thousand kilometers. In the process I got to enjoy the summer heat and seeing the landscape at a different speed. It gave me the opportunity to see more of Geneva and the Vaud countryside. I even went to a slow-up in Bulles. In the process of cycling so much I wore down the rear tire which is meant for cross country rather than road cycling. In January, I replaced the old tires with slick tires and started the year running and then cycling. As we had three weeks of rain on a daily basis I eventually decided to stop using the weather as an excuse and went for runs and bike rides in the rain. When running, I came back soaked. When cycling I came back soaked, covered in mud and cold. [caption id=— align=“aligncenter”] Snowbike After cycling in the snow, I came back and some gears were unusable due certain cogs on the rear cassette freezing. As a consequence of these bad weather bike rides, I had to clean the bike to remove all dirt and re-lubricate the chain to avoid rust and to get the bike to run properly once again. Cycling in these conditions is fun because it requires concentration and focus but I can’t wait for the conditions to improve and to start enjoying sports comfortably once more. Summer is such a nice time of year for cyclists....

A Walk In The Snow — Dec 9, 2022Today I went for a walk in the snow. It wasn’t snowing and I wasn’t in a blizzard but there was snow on the ground. I like when it snows because the landscape looks different. It reminds us of a different age, of old post cards, and a time when the planet was cooler.... -
A Walk at the Snow Line — Mar 29, 2023The most striking thing about a winter with little to no snow is that there is no noise. Normally ski lifts clank, people talk and there is a lot of noise... -
A Snowy Day — Jan 18, 2023Yesterday we had a snowy day. I saw that the snow was beginning to pile up so I went and cleared the snow for fun. I could have left it as it was but I saw an opportunity to have some weight training, for free.... -

200 1990 to 2000 hits on my i-pod — Jan 3, 2007I’ve spent the whole day working on a report which is due on Monday but since I have to send it by post I decided to complete it a few days earlier in order to send it off. I’m in the process of printing it off now and then I can have fun with other subjects. There’s fresh powder snow on the slopes so snowboarding could be quite a bit of fun, especially with all those unmarked runs which may have enough snow for the fun to continue. I downloaded a lot of the hits which were popular whilst I was riding on the bus to school when I was younger. there are quite a lot of memories in these songs. they’re the songs from my generation, and I am old enough to say that. Those 25yrs old are part of a different generation than those pre 25 years old. Over the next year, many of the people I know will join my generation ;)...

The Knackering Bicycle Ride — Nov 30, 2025Yesterday for the first time in a week and a half I went for a bike ride. I was thinking that I would ride with the lazy group. That is to say “group 3” as it is commonly called. Due to the lower turnout for this weekend there was no differentiation between groups. I felt fine, for the first part. It’s when we start to climb, and descend, and climb again, and descend that I began to feel exhausted.... -
Autumn Walks in Winter Snow — Nov 24, 2025This weekend I could have cycled on Saturday and Sunday but I chose not to because I am finally feeling recovered from my cold. I did not want to overdo it by cycling, and getting cold. With hiking I can dress warmly and go at a more relaxed pace.... -
A Quick Photo Walk in the Snow — Nov 20, 2025This morning, as I drove towards the shops I noticed that the Jura was covered in snow, but I also noticed that the trees looked nice and wintery. For this reason, rather than driving to the shops directly I took a detour to the foot of the Jura, got out of the car and walked for a bit.... -
A walk from Le Brassus to Mont Tendre via Marchairuz — Mar 17, 2025Yesterday I expected the walk to be physical. I expected it to be around 21 kilometres. I also saw that it was meant to snow overnight. It got me to question whether it made sense to do the hike. I went anyway. In the end I walked 35 thousand steps according to at least one device. That’s a lot of walking, especially in snow that was up to 30 centimetres deep at moment.... -
Snowshoeing in Shallow Swiss Snow — Feb 3, 2025When I went snowshoeing as a child I was photographed and it was used by the St Cergue Tourism board. I still have that poster in a room. Since then I went snowshoeing a few years ago and didn’t really enjoy it. The snowshoes didn’t feel comfortable. A few weeks ago I saw that people were planning a snowshoeing trip so I checked that they were set to my snowshoe size but skipped. Yesterday I finally went up with that group.... -
Xcursion Fusion in Snow — Jan 10, 2024Yesterday it snowed enough for the snow to get some depth. I went for a walk with snowboard trousers, a proper winter coat and the Xero Xcursion Fusion in snow that reached above their rim without getting snow or water onto my socks until I removed the shoes at the end of the walk. They’re minimal waterproof shoes that have “FeelTrue®” soles. These are thin, minimal soles. Despite this my feet felt warm for the entire walk with normal soles.... -
Shovelling Snow and Playing With Plex — Dec 5, 2023Yesterday it snowed for several hours and that snow was covering the path to my house. When I saw the ground turn from asphalt black to grey, to white I decided to go and start clearing the snow. It’s easy to clear snow when you have three or four centimetres, rather than more. At first it was light and easy to move so I cleared the path once, and then a second time, and then a third, and by the third I decided to stop. It had become a sisyphean task. It was falling as fast as I was clearing it....
